CASE STORY: Dreaming of a start-up from the canna fields

An, a young woman from the Muong ethnic minority, comes from a small town that spans nearly 10 kilometres alongside the Red River in Yen Bai province, northern Vietnam. The area is filled with fertile alluvium, making it ideal for growing crops such as good quality canna rhizomes. Vermicelli made from canna root is a very popular product in Vietnam, as it's not only healthy, but also fragrant, soft and chewy.

On April 12, 2023, Save the Children hosted the Sharing and Learning workshop on supporting youth-led start-up initiatives in Hanoi under the project “EU-Participate: Empowered CSOs and ethnic minority youth for active participation in decision making in Yen Bai, Vietnam” funded by the European Union.

On 25th April 2023, the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (Eurocham), Save the Children and Dutch Business Association Vietnam co-organized the Dinner and Discussion on Responsible Agriculture Supply Chains in Hanoi. The event gathered agribusinesses operating in Vietnam, government agencies and development organisations, with the honourable participation of H.R.H Princess Viktoria de Bourbon de Parme, Patroness of Save the Children Netherlands.
