Save the Children in co-ordination with the Education and Training Department of Hai Phong City has launched a financial education project for children from 10 secondary schools in Hai Phong last week.

 The project is a part of the organization’s financial education programme titled “Smart Start for Students” since 2009 which aims to provide high school students with personal financial management and basically financial service management skills. The programme started in two schools in HCM City in 2009 and is currently implemented in 182 high schools across the city.

Save the Children organized a series of information education communication activities to increase the awareness of nutrition and hygienic lifestyle for children and parents from two remote mountainous districts of Bao Yen and Van Ban, Lao Cai last weekend.

The event is a part of the organization’s five-year development programme which aims to help disadvantaged children from poor communities in densely ethnic minority population areas have access to health care, nutrition improvement, quality education and adolescent development services.

The Prudence Foundation and Save the Chilren in cooperation with Dong Thap Department of Education and Training presents the 590 million VNDs’ worth of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)  equipment package (equivalent to $US 26,800) to communities and schools of 2 beneficiary districts: Hong Ngu and Tan Hong. The package includes: 2 inflatable swimming pools, 55 hand-held and lecture loudspeakers, 35 first aid kits, 500 floating school bags, 180 water wings for school children and 150 life vest for community and school beneficiaries.

Today, Save the Children is to start providing monetary grants to families who suffered loses due to Typhoon Wutip, which hit central Vietnam last September. The donations will be used to help repair houses and recover livelihoods.

 The grants will be distributed to 1,200 households and an estimated 2,400 children living in four disadvantaged communes of Quang Trach and Bo Trach districts in Quang Binh Province.

Duan weighed a mere 2.5kg when he was born. He was in poor health, often suffering from respiratory infections and came down with pneumonia from time to time. Duan’s mother, Hue, gave him breast milk and other liquids for six months before transitioning him to soft foods. He weighed just six kilograms at seven months.
