Save the Children on Nov. 24 joined its partners to launch the $25 million project “Building Resilience to Natural Hazards in Central Vietnam” that plans to help nearly half a million Vietnamese people reduce disaster risks.

Save the Children celebrated the 25^th anniversary of its operations in Vietnam on November 20.

Save the Children started operations in Vietnam in 1990, assisting the most disadvantaged children and their families in the central region. We are now operating in 20 provinces, working in the areas of Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Education, Health and Nutrition, Youth Development, Humanitarian Response and Climate Change Adaptation.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training, Save the Children organized a workshop in Lao Cai Province for 150 teachers and educational officials working in the ethnic minority regions. The objective was to address their challenges and share their views on how to teach ethnic minority children who have a different mother tongue.

The children born into ethnic minority groups are three times likely to die than those of Kinh majority group. There are many factors that cause the higher mortality rate among children under five in ethnic minority groups. Among them is the lack of trained doctors and health workers for mothers and children in remote mountainous villages.
