“Acquiring Skills for a Job Changes My Life”

Nguyen Van Liet (L) in a class sponsored by Save the Children in Vietnam. Nguyen Van Liet, 24, was born to a poor family in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.  His parents divorced when he was still in pregnancy and he grew up with a step father and brother.  Dropping out of school in grade 12 when the family could no longer afford his school fee, Liet moved out to live in his brother’s slaughter house, starting to work and earn money.

Save the Children hands over micro-finance programme to its partners

Save the Children in Vietnam announced that the organization would hand over its financial interest generation from a five-year micro-finance programme to Can Tho Women Union to support the union’s direct support to poor women in the Mekong River Delta province.

Apart from that, Save the Children also provided trainings on the management and skills of the progamme’s implementation to ensure a smooth transition for its women partner.

Poverty is not our choice

Le Thi De turned over a couple of fried cakes and swiftly served her long queue of customers. The 57-year-old woman who has been known for her delicious home-made traditional cakes said she was looking forward to opening her business in town for more income.

In the past years, she had undergone such a very difficult situation to survive and support her family.
