Save the Children launches a new child protection project in HCM City

Save the Children has launched a project to protect children from abuse, exploitation, corporal punishment and violence in HCM City City this week.

The project funded by IKEA Foundation aims to support  16 primary and secondary schools in two districts of Cu Chi and Go Vap to create a child friendly learning environment for the children and strengthen a community based child protection network to protect the children from harms.

Through trainings for children, teachers, parents education managers, the project is expected to improve the awareness of child rights, the understanding of corporal punishment negatives and the means of child protection.

The project supports the schools to create a child protection warning mechanism of their own and design information and education communications plans on child rights and child protection. It also provides direct support to disadvantaged children to have access to school education.

Estimate of 22,400 people with a half of those are children, will benefit from the project’s activities between now and 2016
