Save the Children promotes hygienic lifestyle and improves nutrition for children in poor communes
Save the Children organized a series of information education communication activities to increase the awareness of nutrition and hygienic lifestyle for children and parents from two remote mountainous districts of Bao Yen and Van Ban, Lao Cai last weekend.
The event is a part of the organization’s five-year development programme which aims to help disadvantaged children from poor communities in densely ethnic minority population areas have access to health care, nutrition improvement, quality education and adolescent development services.
The programme was designed to implement in five districts: Bao Thang, Bao Yen, Bat Xat, Muong Khuong, and Van Ban in Lao Cai and is expected to benefit 90,000 children and other 200,000 people in the community.
During the weekend’s event in Bao Yen and Van Ban, more than 1000 children and their parents had an opportunity to learn about the essential nutrition for children’s growth so as to prevent malnutrition among them and how to make use of available resources in order to provide nutritious and diversified food intake for children. They were also briefed on the importance of cleaning hands with soap and hygienic habits in their daily life.
After communication activities, Save the Children provided packages of nutritious food including fish sauce, iodized salt, peanut, dehydrated fish and cooking oil and hygiene kits including soap, shampoo, tooth brush, towels and other toiletries for the children and their families.
