'WRITE ABOUT THE GREEN PLANET' CONTEST

Monday 27 March 2023

The contest “Write about the green planet” was launched by Save the Children in response to the global Generation Hope campaign on acting against climate change and inequality. The contest has received more than 100 applications from dozens of schools in project areas, sharing children's stories about climate change, inequality and calling on the community to join hands to protect the living environment for future generations.

Two stories participating in the contest were selected to represent Vietnamese children's voices in the e-book "Wish Upon A Star" - a collection of Asian children's voices about climate change developed by Save the Children - and shared with world leaders in the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP27).

Below are several outstanding stories from the contest:

1. 'Asking for Rain' - Group of students, 3 Khanh Hai Primary school, Ca Mau: A short play based on a Vietnamese fairy tale about a toad who goes to the heaven to ask for the rain to convey messages on environmental protection and disaster risk reduction. Through the students' creativity, the phenomenon of drought on earth was not caused by the Rain God who was negligent of his duties, but as the resulted of people cutting down trees and polluting the environment. The authors also had the opportunity to perform their play at the Workshop to Share Project Results and Promote Cooperation Opportunities in Mekong Delta, jointly organized by Save the Children and the Women's Union of Ca Mau Province, in September 2022.

2. Uyen Nhi, 11, Thua Thien Hue: “The lessons in class gradually helped me understand that my magical planet, my beautiful homeland, the Mid-Autumn Festival... are being threatened by me, myself, my parents, relatives, and friends. And that threat was right at our doorstep.”
