Vietnam Vitamin Angels and National Institute of Nutrition’s visit to project areas in Son La | Vitamin Angels và Viện Dinh dưỡng Quốc gia thăm và làm việc tại địa bàn dự án tỉnh Sơn La
From April 24 to 27, 2023, Save the Children together with representatives of the Vietnam National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) and Vitamin Angels - an international non-profit organization on public health – visited and worked in Son La province. The delegation came to support and monitor vitamin A distribution activities for children at the health centers of Chieng Muon and Chieng Lao communes, Muong La district, as well as talk to pregnant women and new mothers in the area.
The partnership between Save the Children, NIN and Vitamin Angels was established in 2010 to support the distribution of Vitamin A to all children aged 6 to 59 months and a part of deworming medication for children aged 24 to 59 months old in Vietnam, as well as the provision of multiple micronutrient supplement (MMS) to pregnant women in poor districts across the country.
Since 2015, every year about 8 million children and more than 60,000 pregnant women in Vietnam benefit from the program, which helps improve the quality of maternal and child health in Vietnam in general as well as in disadvantaged areas in particular.
According to NIN data, the rate of stunting in children under 5 decreased from 29.3% in 2010 to 19.6% in 2020. In the same period, the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women lowered from 36.5% to 25.6%; and from 29.2% to 19.6% in children under 5. Also, the rate of subclinical vitamin A deficiency in children under 5 decreased from 14.2% to 9.5%.

Từ ngày 24 đến ngày 27/04/2023, Tổ chức Cứu trợ Trẻ em cùng đại diện Viện Dinh dưỡng Quốc gia Việt Nam (NIN) và Vitamin Angels - một tổ chức phi lợi nhuận quốc tế về sức khỏe cộng đồng - đã có chuyến thăm và làm việc tại tỉnh Sơn La. Đoàn đã đến hỗ trợ, giám sát hoạt động cấp phát vitamin A cho trẻ em tại trung tâm Y tế xã Chiềng Muôn và Chiềng Lao, huyện Mường La, và trò chuyện với phụ nữ mang thai và nuôi con nhỏ tại địa bàn.
Mối quan hệ đối tác giữa Tổ chức Cứu trợ Trẻ em, NIN và Vitamin Angels được thiết lập từ năm 2010 nhằm hỗ trợ cung cấp Vitamin A cho tất cả trẻ em từ 6 đến 59 tháng tuổi và một phần thuốc tẩy giun cho trẻ từ 24 đến 59 tháng tuổi tại Việt Nam, hỗ trợ viên đa vi chất cho phụ nữ mang thai tại các huyện nghèo trên cả nước.
Từ năm 2015 đến nay, mỗi năm tại Việt Nam có khoảng 8 triệu trẻ em và hơn 60.000 phụ nữ mang thai được hưởng lợi từ chương trình, góp phần nâng cao chất lượng sức khỏe bà mẹ trẻ em tại Việt Nam nói chung và tại các khu vực khó khăn nói riêng.
Theo số liệu của NIN, tỷ lệ suy dinh dưỡng thấp còi ở trẻ em dưới 5 tuổi đã giảm từ 29,3% năm 2010 xuống còn 19,6% năm 2020. Trong cùng thời kỳ, tỷ lệ thiếu máu do thiếu sắt ở phụ nữ mang thai giảm từ 36,5% xuống 25,6%; tỷ lệ này cũng giảm từ 29,2% xuống 19,6% ở trẻ dưới 5 tuổi. Đồng thời, tỷ lệ thiếu vitamin A cận lâm sàng ở trẻ dưới 5 tuổi giảm từ 14,2% xuống 9,5% trong giai đoạn này.
