Save the Children supports Children Forum 2013

Tuesday 3 December 2013

Save the Children has supported the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to organise the 2013 Children Forum in Hanoi on 8-9 August.
More than 170 children representatives for 26 million Vietnamese children across the country attended the two day forum which is to seek for the children recommendations for the revision of the law on child protection.

At the forum, children have continued to discuss and make recommendation for the revision of law on child protection through six topics: life safety for children; anti-violent and anti-abused policies for children; the regulations on stopping pre-matured marriage and child labour; policies for law violated children; child participation and the rights of disabled and disadvantaged children.

Vice President of Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Doan, ministers from labour and education ministries and the state’s and government’s children policy makers attended the forum and had face-to-face discussions with the children.

Questions raised by the children were directly put to the relevant officials for their feedbacks. After the forum, the children’s recommendations will be handed to policy makers and the law revising board for the law revision process.

This is the third time such a national children forum has been organised in Vietnam. Save the Children plays a key role in the organisation of these events.
