Monday 11 November 2013

Save the Children has launched a new school health and nutrition programme in three cities of Ha Noi, Hai Phong and HCM City.

More than 1500 children, education managers, teachers and school health workers attended the launching ceremony held in Hai Phong city. The event is inspired by the United Nation’s ‘The Power is in Your Hands’ day on October 15th to promote hand washing.

The children had an oppotunity to play games, quiz and take part in dancing session in response to the event.
The programme is expected to reach 31,600 children and 600 teachers through teacher and health worker training sessions, communication activities and health education for children. Health facilities and services for children will also be upgraded.

It is the second phase of an US$846,652 school health project sponsored by Wrigley that Save the Children has been implementing since 2011.

During the first phase of the project, 320 teachers and 30 health officers received training and materials to help them teach children important everyday habits to improve hygiene. More than 700 teachers and parents were also invited to 14 community events to discuss children’s oral health, nutrition and lifestyle. In addition, the sanitation systems in 30 schools were upgraded.
