INAUGURATION OF NEONATAL UNIT OF PEDIATRICS DEPARTMENT AT NGHIA LO AREA GENERAL HOSPITAL, YEN BAI PROVINCE

On November 4, 2021, the treatment area of Neonatal Unit of Pediatrics Department – Nghia Lo Area General Hospital officially opened. In recent years, the Neonatology Unit of the Department of Pediatrics has successfully treated many premature infants with severe diseases such as sepsis, meningitis, neonatal respiratory failure, inflammation, bowel necrosis, etc. which normally requires being transferred to other hospitals.  This new unit now has 20 beds, including one intensive care treatment room, one infection treatment room, one light room and one room using the Kangaroo method for premature babies, as well as the ability to deploy the Surfactant pump technique – one of the typical techniques in the treatment of endothelial disease and respiratory failure for premature infants.  

With the inauguration of this new treatment area, the Neonatal Unit’s team of highly-qualified, dedicated and child-loving medical staff now as the infrastructure and modern equipment (i.e., ventilators, jaundice lamps, incubators, infusion machines, electric injection pumps, monitors for vital functions, etc.) to effectively treat newborns who have special medical conditions or are low-birth-weight and premature babies.  This will make a significant reduction in the mortality rate in premature and sick infants, as well as decrease the rate of pediatric patients being transferred to higher levels. 

In addition to this unit, Van Chan district health center established a Pediatric Department separate from the Department of Internal Pediatrics on October 29, 2021. The Department of Pediatrics with the new Neonatal Unit has initially treated infants with medical conditions such as jaundice, infection, and preterm infants from 34 weeks. In the coming time, it will also be able to treat respiratory failure and take care of low-birth-weight premature babies using Kangaroo mother method (KMC). 

 These are some of the inspiring initiatives supported by the “Saving children’s lives in vulnerable communities in Vietnam” in Yen Bai province funded by Glaxo SmithKline (GSK) through Save the Children, which has been increasing the use of maternal and newborn health services in District Health Center and Commune Health Center of Tram Tau, and Nghia Lo Hospital since November 2016. The project focuses on training health staff at all levels, including village health workers, raising community awareness about maternal and newborn health care practices, and improving the quality of neonatal units. 

 The project coordinates with the National Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Yen Bai province to train medical teams to take care of sick newborns (at least two teams/unit) for the health centers of Van Chan, Tram Tau and Mu Cang Chai districts, Nghia Lo Area General Hospital. The project also provided and trained the use of equipment for the neonatal unit such as continuous positive pressure ventilator, automatic infusion machine, heating bed, electric injection pump, monitoring machine, control Air Conditioner and adjustable bed for the KMC room.

KHÁNH THÀNH KHU ĐIỀU TRỊ ĐƠN NGUYÊN SƠ SINH THUỘC KHOA NHI – BỆNH VIỆN ĐA KHOA KHU VỰC NGHĨA LỘ, TỈNH YÊN BÁI

Ngày 04/11/2021, khu điều trị của Đơn nguyên Sơ sinh thuộc khoa Nhi – Bệnh viện Đa khoa khu vực Nghĩa Lộ đã đi vào hoạt động. Trong thời gian qua, Đơn nguyên Sơ sinh thuộc khoa Nhi đã điều trị thành công cho rất nhiều trẻ sơ sinh mắc bệnh lý nặng như: sơ sinh non yếu, nhiễm trùng huyết, viêm màng não mủ, suy hô hấp sơ sinh, viêm ruột hoại tử… mà trước đây phải chuyển viện. Khu điều trị Đơn nguyên Sơ sinh mới đưa vào hoạt động với 20 giường bệnh, gồm 01 phòng Điều trị hồi sức tích cực, 01 phòng điều trị nhiễm khuẩn, 01 phòng chiếu đèn và 01 phòng sử dụng phương pháp Kangaroo. Đồng thời, Đơn nguyên Sơ sinh cũng đã triển khai kỹ thuật bơm Surfactant – một trong những kỹ thuật điển hình trong điều trị bệnh lý màng trong, suy hô hấp cho trẻ sơ sinh non tháng.

Với việc khánh thành khu điều trị mới, Đơn nguyên Sơ sinh sẽ có đội ngũ cán bộ y tế trình độ cao, tâm huyết, yêu trẻ; hạ tầng đồng bộ và nhiều trang thiết bị hiện đại như máy thở, đèn chiếu vàng da, lồng ấp, máy truyền dịch, bơm tiêm điện, các monitor theo dõi chức năng sống... để điều trị cho những trường hợp sơ sinh bị bệnh lý hoặc trẻ nhẹ cân, non tháng. Qua đó, giảm đáng kể tỉ lệ tử vong ở trẻ sơ sinh bệnh lý, đặc biệt là trẻ sơ sinh non tháng, cũng như giảm tỉ lệ các ca bệnh nhi phải chuyển lên tuyến trên.

Bên cạnh Khu điều trị này, trước đó Trung tâm y tế huyện Văn Chấn đã thành lập khoa Nhi được tách ra từ khoa Nội Nhi. Khoa Nhi với Đơn nguyên sơ sinh mới đã bước đầu điều trị các trẻ sơ sinh bệnh lý như vàng da, nhiễm khuẩn, sơ sinh non tháng từ 34 tuần. Trong thời gian tới sẽ triển khai thực hiện điều trị suy hô hấp cũng như chăm sóc trẻ sơ sinh non tháng nhẹ cân bằng phương pháp bà mẹ Kangaroo (KMC).

Trên đây là một trong số các sáng kiến thuộc Dự án “Chăm sóc sức khỏe trẻ em tại địa bàn khó khăn” tại tỉnh Yên Bái, Việt Nam do Tập đoàn Glaxo SmithKline (GSK) tài trợ thông qua Tổ chức Cứu trợ Trẻ em được thực hiện từ tháng 11/2016 nhằm tăng cường sử dụng các dịch vụ chăm sóc sức khỏe bà mẹ và trẻ sơ sinh tại các trạm y tế (TYT) xã thuộc huyện Trạm Tấu, trung tâm y tế (TTYT) huyện Trạm Tấu và Bệnh viện Đa khoa Khu vực (BVĐKKV) Nghĩa Lộ, tỉnh Yên Bái, Việt Nam. Dự án tập trung đào tạo cho cán bộ y tế các tuyến bao gồm cả nhân viên y tế thôn bản, nâng cao nhận thức của cộng đồng về thực hành chăm sóc sức khỏe (CSSK) bà mẹ và trẻ sơ sinh (BMTSS), và cải thiện chất lượng các đơn nguyên sơ sinh (ĐNSS).

Dự án phối hợp với Bệnh viện Nhi Trung ương và bệnh viện Sản Nhi tỉnh Yên Bái đào tạo các kíp chăm sóc sơ sinh bệnh lý (ít nhất 2 kíp/đơn vị) cho TTYT huyện Văn Chấn, Trạm Tấu và Mù Cang Chải, bệnh viện đa khoa khu vực Nghĩa Lộ. Dự án cũng cung cấp và đào tạo sử dụng các trang thiết bị cho đơn nguyên sơ sinh như máy thở áp lực dương liên tục (CPAP), máy truyền dịch tự động, giường sưởi, bơm tiêm điện, máy theo dõi monitoring, điều hòa và giường điều chỉnh cho phòng KMC.
